QUESTION #3: Connect the 10 Commandments as God’s universal moral law for society, and the second principle of understanding the nature of man. That he’s a sinner, that he’s depraved, and naturally does not do what’s right.

Answer:

Gary Dull:

“…just to review, to be depraved means that man is so lost that he cannot save himself. And sin is the violation, it’s a transgression of the law of God. What we need to understand is that, without God’s law mankind has no idea how to act morally.

Now, let me build upon that also, because without God’s law, mankind would not know that he’s a sinner. Therefore, it is God’s law that shows us, number one, how to live as well as it teaches us that we are sinners and need the Savior. All we need to do is turn to the book of Galatians 3:19 where it asks the question. It says, “Wherefore then serveth the law? What is the law for?” You drop down to the Galatians 3:24 where it says, “The law was our school master to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by faith.”

We are not justified by keeping the 10 Commandments because we can’t keep the 10 Commandments. You break one, James 2:10 says, you break them all. But then verse 25 it says, “But after that, faith is come, we are no longer under a school master for ye are all the children of God, by faith, in Christ Jesus.” It is the law, as we try to connect these dots, it is God’s law that, number one, shows us God’s moral standard, it also shows us that we are sinners and we need a Savior, and thus it is the law that brings us ultimately to recognize the need of the Savior who is Jesus Christ the Lord.”
