Sam Rohrer:
Hello and welcome to this Wednesday edition of Stand In the Gap Today, and it’s also our bimonthly emphasis on Israel, the Middle East and biblical prophecy. Now today I’m glad to have back with me Dr. Carl Broggi, well known to all of you who regularly listen to this program. He’s senior pastor of Community Bible Church in Beaufort, South Carolina. And there he also hosts his own radio program, which I’ve mentioned before. It’s entitled Search the Scriptures, and they have a website where you can find a lot of information and I’ll give that to you@searchthescriptures.org. Now, during this bimonthly focus, we try to intertwine as you know, but I’ll just state it again, some aspect of headline news that has some connection to Israel, which by its nature, it has a connection to Israel. It has a direct connection to biblical prophecy. And by that very nature, the location of Israel is in the Middle East.
And so that’s why these things are connected and we seem never to have a shortage of things for which to talk. There are many directions even today that we could go, but being that this month here is the Christmas season where we’ll celebrate Christmas, which is all about Christ’s first coming to earth in fulfillment of biblical prophecy, which again directly connects it to God’s promise to Abraham, Isaac, and to Jacob. We’re going to look today at the person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and what the Bible says and how the devil and satanic religions and various efforts from Christ first coming have attempted for these now 2000 years to undermine the uniqueness to water down the uniqueness, and somehow to disturb the singular role of Jesus Christ, the prophesied Messiah. So within this program, we’re going to talk a bit about the Pope’s recent commentary about the role of Mary. We’re going to talk about the developing one world religion and why we must all be an alert for attempts being made to convince people that Jesus the Christ is not the only way to heaven, though he may be a good man as some say, and even a prophet as others say. So the tide I’ve chosen to frame today’s conversation is this Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, not merely Jesus the prophet. And with that, Dr. Carl Broggi, Carl, thank you for being back with me. It’s always a highlight of the month.
Carl Broggi:
Well, it’s really good to be with you today, Sam. I look forward to some of the things you have planned for us.
Sam Rohrer:
Well, let’s get right into it. Carl, obviously you’ve preached sermons, many, many, many, many on this topic, and so it’s going to be tough to kind of narrow it down. But let’s try this. In Genesis three 15, as we’ve talked many times, God prophesied a future coming of a redeemer in Genesis 12, one to three. Then God, then in fulfillment of that took a next step further covenanted with Abraham to bring forward this redeemer his way. And in his time through Abraham and his seed, we’ve talked again about much God’s chosen people, the Jews, a chosen nation, Israel and a chosen city, Jerusalem. And Satan has from all of that time, all the way attempted derail God’s plan. And he’s increasing in his effort to do that. I believe as he sees his time is drawing near, but in the end, God’s plan of redemption and Satan’s counterfeit plan all centers around Jesus Christ, the redeemer of all mankind. So if you don’t mind, could you do this? Take the balance of the segment and just build this out, build in what I’ve shared here and identify the key prophecies fulfilled through Jesus coming, his first coming that proves Jesus is God’s promised redeemer, the Jewish Messiah, and why it’s so important to reject even in the slightest variation of God’s plan and Jesus’s role within that.
Carl Broggi:
Well, Sam, there’s over 300 specific prophecies that all relate to the first coming of Christ, and they prove one, the authority of scripture because there is no fulfilled prophecy in any other religious book that you can think of except the Bible, because only God knows the future in prophecy is history before it happens. And so for instance, the place of his birth is going to be Bethlehem Micah five, two. It’s fulfilled, it’s recorded in Matthew chapter two and verse one, and it’s important that’s a tiny little obscure village that narrows drastically the exact place that he’s going to be born. Now the book of Mormon says in Alma chapter seven that he’d be born in Jerusalem. Well, the Bible says, Bethlehem, the time of his coming Messiah, according to the 70 weeks prophecy has to be cut down or crucified to further define it before the destruction of the temple in 70 AD only Jesus fits that the tribe that he’s going to come from.
It’s prophesied in Genesis 49 from the tribe of Judah. All you have to do is read the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew one. It affirms that not only from the tribe of Judy, he has to come from the family of David, a specific family within that tribe. And Jesus comes with those credentials. He’s going to be born of a virgin. A virgin will conceive and give birth a virgin conception. Now the liberals will say, well, the word is Alma. It means a woman of young marital age. Well, it can mean that, but there’s not a single instance in all the Old Testament where the Hebrew word Alma refers to anything other than a literal virgin. Every young woman of marital age that is recorded in the Old Testament is a literal virgin. But to further narrow it and define it, the spirit of God uses in the Greek, when he quotes Isaiah Parthenons, it can only to a literal virgin.
A virgin without a man is going to have a conception. Why? Because God, the Holy Spirit, as Gabriel said, will overshadow your womb. Mary, a baby is going to be born whose nature will be both God and man. The baby’s name will be called mighty God. Again, a fulfillment of prophecy. Where’s he going to minister? Well, Isaiah nine says he’s going to minister in a place called Galilee. And not only Galilee, the coordinates that are given are Capernaum. I’ve been preaching through the gospel of Mark. We’ve noted how Jesus has to leave Nazareth because he’s hated there, and he goes to Capernaum. And then Matthew four quotes, this is a fulfillment of prophecy. The exact parameters describing Isaiah only fits one place, not by accident, the kind of ministry we’d have. He’d make the blind to see, the lame to walk the depth to here.
These were unique to the Messiah, never done before how he would be betrayed a close friend for 30 pieces of silver potter’s feel would be bought literally each one was fulfilled. How he would die, his hands and feet would be pierced. Described in Psalm 22, Zechariah 14 literally fulfilled Isaiah 53. He’s pierced through ever before. Crucifixion is invented. Three prophets describe how he’s going to die. The response of those who hate him, they’ll mock him while he is dying. Soldiers, Psalm 22, prophesied would cast lots for his garments. Not a single bone would be broken. Psalm 34, as Turing by typology in Exodus 12 in the Passover lamb that he would literally physically rise from the dead. Every single one born in Bethlehem, tribe of Judah, David’s line, virgin birth before 70 a ad, a Galilee ministry, miracles, crucifixion, resurrection, all fulfilled, affirming Jesus is Lord.
Sam Rohrer:
Amen. Amen. And ladies and gentlemen, that’s why when Jesus came, he could say that he was the son of God. Yes. And he was the way, the truth and the life. No one could come unto the Father through him. Alright, that’s the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. Not a wonder the world has tried to dilute into counterfeit, and we’ll get into that beginning in the next second. If you’re just joining us, welcome aboard today. This is our bimonthly focus on generally we call it Israel, middle East and biblical prophecy. And today you’ll find that all of these will in fact be woven together a bit. But the focus today, and we’re doing this because at the end of the day, this focus is the focus of scripture. It is Jesus the Christ. And my theme, the title we’ve chosen today, Dr. Carl Broggi is guest again here today.
He’s with us regularly and such a blessing to have on this program. But our title is this, Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, not merely Jesus the prophet. And if he didn’t catch the last segment, Dr. Carl Bergey laid out the highlights in a very persuasive fashion of all the Old Testament biblical prophecies that were fulfilled to the detail by Jesus Christ when he came his first coming, no other person could or ever did fulfill that prophecy. It’s not possible because God is the one who worked out these details. So today we’re looking at this and I want to go into some historic examples. If Jesus Christ is unique and he is, doesn’t it make sense that the devil would want to counterfeit it? And he has false religions, false prophets and other demonic strategies have come into this world. They’ve been around from the beginning, but in the end, what is it?
The fundamental deception, the goal is to deny that Jesus Christ is the very son of God and therefore can make the statement without dispute that he is alone the way, the truth and the life. Now, the opponents, the devil has tried to present counterfeits in various forms. One, John chapter two, verse 18, just a couple verses. It says here, it says that, let me just read it to you. He says, children, it is the last hour. And as you’ve heard that antichrist is calming. So now many antichrist have come. Therefore, we know that this is the last hour. Then verse 21 to 23, it says this, I write to you not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it and because no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar? But he who denies that Jesus is the Christ, this is the antichrist. He who denies the father and the son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the son, Jesus has the Father also. Alright, Carl, I just read that there other verses I could read as well, but let’s go into we’re now 2000 years approximately from the time that the Apostle John wrote this. But looking back from that time to the present, could you identify according to your observation aid leaving or a couple leading efforts that have occurred, which deceptively deny Jesus as the son of God and then present a counterfeit substitute?
Carl Broggi:
Well, it’s happened throughout the history of the church. Our confession is that Jesus is God incarnate. In the beginning was the Word. The word was with God. The word was God. Then John will say in the word became flesh, he’s the image. Paul will say of the invisible God, the firstborn, a title of preeminence of all creation. All things hold together in end. And so that’s been repeatedly denied. You’ve got Deism in the second century where they say that Jesus is not God. They denied his preexistence. The Gnostics did the same thing, a slightly different twist to it. They said he was a divine spirit who only seemed human. So the Deist denied his deity, the agnostics, his humanity, same heresy on opposite ends of the spectrum. And the fourth century had s Jehovah’s Witness come out of Arianism and Aria had famous quoting made.
There was a time when the sun was not. And so that was the purpose of the council. I see in 3 25 people say, well, they invented all these doctrines. No, they were just affirming what the church had held for centuries. And because there was this movement to deny Jesus’s eternal deity by Arius fifth and seventh centuries, you’ve got historian again. They’re denying his divine human person. Then in the seventh century, most profoundly we have Islam. I’ll get some Christmas cards every year, and they’ll show the wise men, though I doubt there was three, maybe 33. And in the back they’ll have these ettes. But ettes don’t exist until 700 years after Christ. But again, they say Jesus is just a prophet. They affirmed, he was virgin born. He was a miracle worker, but he’s not God. They even deny his crucifixion. They say that Jesus was not crucified.
Someone who just looked like him. Many Islamic scholars will say, well, that was Judas in the 18th and 19th century. You have Unitarianism today we have Unitarians in the Unitarian Universalists. They deny the trinity, the deity of Christ, his substitutionary death. They will affirm he was a great man, but that he was not God. And sadly, some of our founding fathers embraced either deism or unitarianism. Deism denied the miracles, the incarnation, the resurrection. And they just thought that Jesus was a great moral teacher, not divine. That’s Ben Franklin. I hope some of the brothers who witnessed to him want him to Christ, I’d love to see him in heaven. And then you’ve got liberal Protestantism again in the 19th and 20th centuries. And to this day, they deny his virgin birth, his literal resurrection. He’s inspiring, but he’s not God incarnate. And then again, in the 20th century, in 21st century, you’ve got JWS again.
I mentioned they come out of Arianism, they deny his deity, Mormonism, they use the same terminology we use. Oh, we believe Jesus is the son of God in the same way, Sam, that you and I are sons and women are daughters of God, but not that he’s God the Son. So don’t be fooled Mormons. They do not embrace all the sound doctrines of historical Christianity, Christian science, Mary Baker, Eddie. And then you have all your new age movement. Today, I would say largely it would be Islam, JW’s, Mormonism, and certainly the new age Jesus that people have been presenting. But the theme is the same, to deny his divine human person.
Sam Rohrer:
Let me ask you to follow up on this in the next segment, I’m going to actually ask you to explain it where the Pope recently made a proclamation about Mary, but what about the Catholic church? Because the Catholic church has, well, when you go to Israel like you’ve done so many, many times, and I went the first time and somebody says, well, what are you? Well, I am a Christian. They think Catholicism. And they say, no, no, no. I’m a Bible believing Christian. But in Catholicism, in other areas where you may not destroy the divinity of Christ, you can actually weaken the position of Christ by throwing in works of some type or other things. How do they factor into this?
Carl Broggi:
Yeah. So unlike say Mormons or Jehovah’s Witness, they would affirm the full deity of Jesus. They would affirm the doctrine of the Trinity. They would affirm that he literally died. He literally rose and he’s literally coming again. So it seems like it tastes with great orthodoxy. But again, what those terms mean is significantly different from what the Bible reveals. And so they do not believe that a man is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. And you can believe a lot of wrong things. You could believe the Pope is God’s man. You could believe that Mary was a perpetual virgin. You could believe a lot of wrong things and still go to heaven. And there are some roaming Catholics who through various ministries, maybe your own, they’ve heard the gospel, they’ve received Jesus, they just haven’t left the church yet. And the day I got saved as a Roman Catholic, I had all kinds of bad doctrine in my head, but I came to understand grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, which was life-changing.
And then when you’re regenerated and you become a new creature, new creature in Christ Jesus, you have a new capacity to understand truth where it changes your life. And so Satan is so crafty, he speaks of false apostles, deceitful workers. They disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. Then he says, no wonder for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, therefore is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Romanism. In a nutshell, there’s a lot of truth there, but there’s enough error mixed with that truth to literally damn a person forever
Sam Rohrer:
And
Carl Broggi:
The place of eternal torment, you cannot deny his substitutionary atonement and they deny that they’ll use terms. Oh yeah, we’re saved by grace. Grace that comes through the sacraments that give you the ability do works that will help save you. So if we were to paint a biblical equation of salvation, we’d say faith in Christ alone, meaning his death barrel and resurrection equals salvation plus good works. That is good works are the fruit or the result of conversion. Or in Romanism they would say faith in Christ plus good works equals salvation. That good works are part of the way to securing salvation. That’s why it’s the sin of presumption to say, you can know you’re saved In Roman Catholicism, they say that’s the sin of pride. And it would be if we were saved in some way, shape or form by human merit, but we’re not. And so it’s just the opposite. A man must humble himself in trust in Christ alone, admit that he could do nothing. And when we put our faith where God put our sin, he immediately declares us righteous wholly. He places the spirit in us, begins to change us, makes us a new creation. And good works are the fruit but not the root. Something that the Council of Trent denied reaffirmed at Vatican one, Vatican two, and as recently as the cardinal of colleges in 2010. And that’s significant.
Sam Rohrer:
So ladies and gentlemen, you can see why scripture says to change one dot or tittle one change at all. One iota of scripture goes right to the heart of counterfeit. It’s an undermining of what God says. So whether we add to what scripture says, we take away from what scripture says, we either add to Christ or we take away from him because it’s all about him. And there’s a lot of other things and examples we could lay out, but I think you get the idea. We come back, we’re going to move into this concept of where things are going right now, where a little bit’s taken from here, a little bit taken there as we move towards a one world religion, how does Jesus Christ fit into it? Well, Carl, let’s continue here. Again, ladies and gentlemen, just turning in. We’re halfway through the program, ma’am.
Dr. Carl Broggi, senior pastor of Community Bible Church in Beaufort, South Carolina is with me again and I’m really thankful. Well, for several years now that he and his very, very busy schedule has made it apart, carve out some time to be with us generally once a month on our focus, which this program is of Israel, the Middle East, and biblical prophecy. If you were to go back through and do search on our site, on our app via the app, stand in the Gap or stand in the gap radio.com. You can search and you can find now dozens and dozens of programs that Carl and I have done. We’ve gone through an entire stretch of biblical prophecy. We’ve talked about end times, events, all those things. It’s almost like a college program. There’s so much there. I just want you to know that. And today is just a continuation here.
Our folks today is Jesus the prophesied Messiah, not merely Jesus the prophet, as Dr. Broggi said in the other side of the program. So many people do in the last segment. I mean, so Carl, any true Bible believer that I have found, and I imagine you found it the same way, knows that deception is all around us. Even the unsaved world knows that people are trying to take advantage of them and fool them. But there is no one in my perspective that I’ve met who clearly professes Jesus as the Christ, the son of God, who is unable to see and literally sense the converging of biblical prophecy indicating the end of the church age and the rise of antisemitism, the persecution against a true believer, all things that we’ve talked about in depth on previous programs. But as a part of this, there is a global system of economic and political control and a one world religion that is emerging and it’s a focus of comment even in the secular world, these things that we’re talking about now from a biblical perspective, the world is out there talking about it because it’s obvious.
But here’s my first question. Let’s go in and take a headline item here first and it’ll tie back into the last segment, the new Pope, American born American Pope. Now the new Pope made a proclamation some time ago, which many have received and says, oh wow, this is great. This is the Catholic church is really one that I can support because the Pope made a change regarding Mary and it’s being out there that he changed the role of Mary as co redemptus, which many folks, public people speaking out there saying, well, if you just get rid of the co redemptus part, I could agree with the Catholic church. Anyways, expand upon that please, why that was done, how that may actually be contributing to I would say an aligning of people that could well develop as a part of the one world religion the Bible tells us will come,
Carl Broggi:
Well, I think it will foster the one world religion and that it will make Catholicism more adaptable to a lot of people. So in October the seventh, he released a document called Mother of the Faithful People of God in reference to Mary. And it came out in early November. They released it. And in fairness to them, there are certainly evangelicals who have said, well, the church, the Roman church is taught that she’s a co redeemer, a co-ed, et cetera, et cetera. And they’ve never actually officially taught that. It was never a dogma until the magisterium, which is the official teaching arm of the church, affirm something then it’s not true. But in practice it’s been true and that many Roman Catholics believe that about Mary. So what this particular movement did is it just affirmed what the church supposedly has taught all along. And again, this is not new.
The second Vatican Council in the 1960s, Sam refused to adopt the term co redeemer. And you had popes like John Paul II though he prayed to Mary all the time. He was a big ologist. Benedict the 16 said, no, it’s misleading to say she’s a coer. Even Francis who denied that Jesus was the only way to God in his September 13th, 2023 address to 10,000 Singaporean. You can read it online. He said, no, Mary is Jesus’s mother human vessel that God used, but she’s not a co redeemer. So what does this teaching really do? Well, it affirms that she was a special woman. She carried the Messiah, but she does not redeem in the same sense that Christ does. And so she’s not an equal partner to Christ. And someone said, well, that’s what we’ve been waiting for them to hear. But understand, neither do they remove prayer to Mary, interceding through Mary as a vehicle in which prayers can be answered.
You make Mary God-like, I mean, how can a human hear millions of prayers across the earth if unless she’s omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, only God can do that. So the heresy stays, but it makes it much more palatable where people say, okay, she’s not a co redeemer. I guess I can become a Catholic. And what Catholics are doing is they’re a recruiting so-called evangelicals who only have a form of godliness, but who have never been born again in the same way that Mormons recruited Southern Baptists in the 70 and eighties, Roman Catholics are now sweeping these evangelicals into their church and this makes it much more palatable, but it is still the same old heresy and that they give Mary a place that scripture does not give her. And so what does that do? It makes, again, in a coming world religion, Protestants and Catholics more likely to unite and even Islam. Islam gives Mary a special place. They have a whole chapter in the Quran on Mary, I think there’s 30 sometimes. She’s quoted in the Quran, don’t quote me in the exact number, but she is given a high place, but they never saw her as some kind of redeemer. So the fact that the Roman church now officially dogmatically as part of the magisterium refutes that it makes them much more palatable to work with Catholics in the future. All again, part of the coming one world religion.
Sam Rohrer:
And that sounds to me Carl like has been having for a long time, there’s been an effort among the world’s religion, Islam, Christianity, primarily the Catholic church and Judaism, a form of Judaism that have said we’re really all alike. Matter of fact, it’s taken political form in the Abrahamic Accords, which was done some years ago. And the current Gaza peace plan that whereas it actually uses the word merge in the Gaza plan of bringing these religions together, which politically is a really attractive thing, but you can’t merge these things anyways, there are many, myself included, who would say this attempt which has been on for a long time, perhaps what the Pope just did helps to clear the way for this merger, which politically now has a lot of impetus behind it with Abraham Accord and the Gaza Peace Plan. And actually there’s some things that preceded it anyways, how do your thoughts make regarding these things align in this world? Religion? And then tell us what you can and the time have relative to what the Bible says will come as a one world religion
Carl Broggi:
In a time of crisis. People will look to each other for help. We saw a glimpse of this at nine 11 where George W. Bush had a religious worship service that filled a stadium where he had rabbis, amens, priests, the whole spectrum of religion, Hindus, Buddhists all speaking. Why? Because people were shaken by what happened. Listen, when the rapture happens, this world is going to be shaken like no one has ever seen before. And they’re going to look for answers and they’re going to pull together religiously. And so the Bible teaches in the first half of the tribulation period, revelation 17, there will be a one world government, Paul, excuse me, one world religion and a one world government. And that one world religion will be a compilation of all the various religions of the world trying to cooperate again. People will be desperate. Of course, in the middle of the tribulation that changes, the antichrist is raised back to life.
He does the miraculous even further and he’s going to singularly ask for the worship of all the world. And unless you take his mark, his name on your forehead or hand, you will not be able to buy or sell anything. So this is all a predecessor to what Paul calls the apostasy. There’s always been apostasy since the beginning of the church, but there’s the articular use, the apostasy that Paul writes in his letter to Timothy, which is the apostasy of all apostates, where people will fall away from the one true God and come together collectively in this one world religion. And the stage is being set for that. There’s much that’s happening Israel’s back in the land, the moral climate that God predicts that will be in place for the second coming, the days of Noah, those days of immorality, the days of lot those days of homosexuality, globalism, all these governments working together regionally, internationally, all coming against Israel. The spirit of antisemitism is prophesied in Zechariah 12, Zechariah 14, revelation 16, revelation 19, where all the will go against Israel. So this is the stage being set. The rapture could happen today. The second coming is a prophetically driven event, but the fact that God is fulfilling prophecy for the second coming reminds us that the rapture that must proceed. It is that much closer.
Sam Rohrer:
That’s excellent. Ladies and gentlemen, we’re at the break here. When we come back, we’re going to take these things that we’ve talked about. Again, a one word religion where people, the religions of the world are being said, oh, unite, let’s lay down our differences and come together. Now think of that in the context of Satanic counterfeit effort. Alright, well if you diminish Jesus, you’re a counterfeit. It’s a heresy. God says, and he gives us in scripture, many warning, we’ll come back. We’re going to talk about heeding Christ warnings. He’s told us that these things will happen. I’m going to talk to Dr. Carl Broggi about some of those warnings and what true believers can do to help guard themselves against deception. Alright, ladies and gentlemen, thanks for being with us today. We’re going to go into our final segment here now. And again, if you didn’t catch the entire program, please go back and pick it up.
And again, as a reminder, when you do so on our website or on our app stand in the Gap, you also now have access to a transcript of the program. It’s there, you can download it, you can read it. It’s helpful because a lot of things are shared in programs like this. A lot of little pieces of information that you often wondered, what did I hear? Well, you can go back and you can read it. And I know that, I mean, you’re listening to radio just like me. You’re generally doing something else while you’re listening and you may not have a chance to write things down. So that’s why we try to provide that as well. So I just want to encourage you to do that. And before we just get into this, I want to thank all of you who have written to us this year.
We’re going into our final month. I want to thank all of you who have partnered with us financially. I do not talk about this aspect very much on this program. I pray daily that God would touch the hearts of you listening. And if this program has been used of the Lord in your life to touch your heart, to express gratefulness and it’s appropriate to do so by thanking in a letter if you want to do that and send that. And certainly by financial help, we cannot do this without your help. If you were to stop giving, there would be no more stand in the gap today program or the weekend or the TV or anything. So it’s important. I just want to put that before you and trust the Lord to communicate to you and for you to respond. Alright, Carl, the Apostle John, as I read in that last time was one who warned about the spirit of antichrist that would involve denying that Jesus is the Son of God and the very Christ.
What are some other similar biblical warnings that you might cite? And why is it so important that true believers heed this warning? And then we’ll go into practical ways that people, or you can just flow into it, what Bible believers, those who fear God can actually do to heed these warnings and mix in with that. Make a little, little mini sermon and mix into that. Why is it so important that we are not caught up in this movement that says, oh, well a little difference here. We can dismiss that. We can dismiss that and the Bible doesn’t mean all that we think it said. Anyway, put that all together in this last segment here.
Carl Broggi:
Well, Sam, the apostle Paul warns that this spirit explicitly says that in latter times, and so this is a different term than last days. The last days technically began with Christ on the earth, though I believe we’re in the last of the last days, whereas the term latter days is the term specifically used to refer to the very end of the age before Christ returned. And he warns us that some will fall away from the faith. The faith here is particular meaning the body of truth we call the Bible and they’ll give attention to demonic spirits and doctrines of demons and so forth. And so God warns as of these things, he tells us that in the last days, perilous times will come again. We’ve been in the last days since Christ was here, but he reminds us that those days will go from bad to worse.
And so we need to be ready. John will say, don’t believe every spirit, every preacher, every sermon, but you should test the spirits to see whether they are from God. Why? Because many false prophets have gone out into the world. So as believers, we need to be geared up to avoid deception. And I think there’s many ways we can do that. Number one, we need to be in the word of God. That’s what this program is all about. It’s pointing people to the word, and I know you didn’t ask me to say this, but I have to raise money for search scriptures. We just took on two new radio stations in Spartanburg and Greenville and that’s $19,000 a year. And people think, well, they’re just automatically there. And they think this program is just automatically there that will always be here. Yet they really need to give because you’re doing something that is significant.
It’s important. And there are many listeners who’ve never given anything. They say on average we own a Christian radio station. Only 1% of people who listen to Christian radio ever even give. So I hope many this month will write stand in the gap. But the scripture says we need to be in the book. We are to delight ourselves in the law of the Lord. We’re to be in it day and night. And then he says, we won’t be easily shaken. We’ll be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water which shields its fruit in its season. All scripture is inspired, it’s profitable. So God describes the Bible as milk, meat, honey, bread, food terms. And many people who are listening to me, they’ve already had one meal, maybe some have eaten lunch over this broadcast. Well, we need to eat physically to sustain ourselves.
And if we only ate once a week on Sunday and did the Sunday morning gorge and picked up our Bible on Sunday morning, we’d be in deep trouble. So we need to feed on scripture daily. Secondly, I would say we need to be under a pastor who teaches the whole council of scripture. Paul said, I didn’t shrink from declaring to you everything that was profitable. I taught you. He said, the whole purpose, the whole council of God. And so if there’s a pastor who’s holding back in a particular area, you should go to a different church. And again, in fairness to other pastors, some who’ve had no formal training, they’re doing everything they know how to do. But you can supplement yourself spiritually with vitamins, through stand in the Gap and other radio ministries that will feed you doctrinally. Again, the scripture teaches were to be in the book because the faith that was handed down to all the saints people will creep in unnoticed and they’ll try to draw us away from that.
In addition, I would say that if we’re going to be strong here at the end of the age, we need to be faithful and accountable to other believers. The writer of the Hebrews says, encourage one another day after day as long as it’s still called today, so that none of you’ll be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. That verse assumes that you don’t have a peripheral relationship to the local assembly, but you’re so engaged that you can encourage people day after day after day as long as it’s called today. If that’s not true, then you can easily be susceptible to the world’s council around us. He’ll later say in the book that we need to stimulate one another to love and good deeds that assumes involvement, not forsaken your assembling together like some had done. And then he says, and this is really interesting, Sam, encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day draw near, what day, the final timeframe in human history. We know we’re in the final timeframe because at the end of time, God would gather Israel and there’s the convergence of all these signs, growing apostasy, growing immorality, growing antisemitism. We’re seeing the day draw air. No one knows the day or the hour, but this is the time in human history where we need each other more than ever. So when we do this, we’re going to stay strong. We’re going to be able to walk in the midst of a godless culture.
Sam Rohrer:
Carl, thank you for saying what you said there. And ladies and gentlemen, that is what we say here. We cannot stand, we cannot be inoculated to deception and be aware if we’re not in the word, we need each other for that. We do need the fellowship in a Bible preaching local church. That is God’s plan. There’s no other way. So in any regard, I hope the program today has been helpful. Carl, we’ve got about 30 seconds left. I would like you if you don’t mind, to close this program and pray this is something to pray about. All those listening would take and take to heart.
Carl Broggi:
Our Father, we’re so grateful for your word that you’ve given us a lamp into our feet and a light to our path, and we just ask that we would be in tune with it, that we would block out all the distractions of this age that are trying to keep us from your word and immerse our minds and thoughts. And it helps someone today who’s listening, who’s unsure of salvation, to know that there’s a finished work that they can rely on, that your son didn’t die for some, but all of our sin so that you can promise whoever will call upon him will be instantly and eternally saved. Help someone to do that today. We ask it in Jesus name.
Sam Rohrer:
Amen. Amen. Amen. Dr. Carl Broggi, thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen, his website with lots of information. Search the scriptures.org, source of scripture.org, and of course our site, you’ll hear it again on the program before it closes, and our app stand in the gap. Get that information, communicate to us. We pray for each of you, all of us who know the Lord one day we’re going to be seeing each other face to face in heaven. I look forward to that, but I look way more forward to seeing the face of Jesus Christ. I hope you know him and I hope that you are looking for and ready for his soon return.
